do you ever stay in the shower for so long you forget who you are

Do you ever just think about the fact that Emmett was only meant to stay a short time as Brendan?
He was meant to be the bad guy. Come in, abuse Ste, then have Ste leave him for the better guy. Moral lesson learnt.
Instead their plan kind of failed big time. Mainly because Emmett was far too talented. He introduced that grey area. He could make Brendan cruel, make him twisted, but he had that vulnerability. That depth. That chemistry with Kieron that meant that the “better guys” couldn’t compare.
Honestly, it’s five years later and I’m still waiting to find characters and a couple that I love more. I think I’ll be waiting forever. I’ve been here since the start (I still remember watching Kieron’s coming out interview on This Morning), and I’ll be here till the end.
I think what Stendan taught me was the concept of being a great writer. You have this vision of a story in your mind…planned out…and then something comes in unexpectedly and slaps that visual up aside the head and now you really have to step to the challenge of creating. When you throw the thought of writing for moral and step into exploring theme (which is your given right as a writer) that’s when you reach the true essence of brilliance.
Because Brendan was supposed to be such a deplorable creature they were allowed to start him out with the craziest of antics but it was the love and acceptance that a majority of the audience had for this character despite his grand flaws that have the writers the ability to make something great out of him. I learned as a consumer that sometimes you have to give writers that chance to explore their own characters cause sometimes they end up taking them and you on such a perfect fucking journey.
A ‘good’ character can take you nowhere. A ‘bad’ character may take you places you don’t need to be. But a ‘grey’ character…will take you to a place of discovery through the vehicle of inspecting things in ways you’d never thought to before. This character had me drenched in my own sweat, drowning in my own tears, and pounding out the ache in own chest but he also gave me an ability to empathize with others and myself through his story.
I remain grateful for the Stendan storyline. For Brendan Brady. For Ste in that stretch. For the courage of going so far and the work put in to make it what it was. It meant and still means everything to me.
